An exciting new opportunity has risen for an enthusiastic Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join the inpatient occupational therapy team at the John Elliot Unit, an acute inpatient mental health unit at Birch Hill Hospital in Rochdale.
This is a great opportunity for someone to develop skills in working closely with individuals with a range of mental health and personality disorder diagnoses within a fast-paced inpatient setting. You would contribute to the provision of a high quality occupational therapy service; working alongside the senior occupational therapist, therapeutic activity co-ordinators, recovery and inclusion workers, and the wider multidisciplinary team.
We welcome applications from newly qualified occupational therapists as well as experienced occupational therapists who would like to gain valuable clinical experience working in an inpatient mental health setting.
This is an exciting time to join the service, the occupational therapy team is a small dedicated department with good links with wider local networks of allied health professionals. To support all members of our team, we offer:
-Weekly OT department meetings; these include business meetings, presentations, case discussions, and peer support opportunities.
-Access learning events such as academic seminars
-External training opportunities available
-Support to pursue service development projects under supervision of senior OT
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for providing specialist Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention for the treatment of working age adults within the unit. They will utilise assessment and evaluation tools drawn from the Model of Human Occupation. As part of the multi-disciplinary team your assessments will be essential in informing and planning positive discharge for the client.
You will be expected to have well developed interpersonal skills to establish and maintain relationships with other staff within wider statutory and non-statutory services. You will seek to establish and maintain useful communication with relevant carers/family /friends negotiating appropriate levels of involvement through agreement with the service, and remaining sensitive to the particular needs of the individual and their carers

Disclosure Barring Certificate check
All of our new starters, who are appointed to a post which requires a Disclosure Barring Certificate check (DBS), will be recharged for the full cost of the check (DBS checks for volunteers are free of charge).
An enhanced DBS check costs £40 and a standard check costs £23 (plus an administration charge of £3.50). If you are a substantive member of staff, the full amount will be taken from your first month’s salary.
If you are a member of staff on our bank, you will need to repay the full amount from your first salary.
We encourage you to register with the DBS update service at an annual cost of £13 (this is mandatory for bank staff).
