Over the last few years, Illumina has experienced rapid expansion therefore we are looking to hire a Manufacturing Chemistry Manager to lead and oversea a brand-new Project at our UK headquarters here in Cambridge, UK.

The Role

The Manufacturing Manager provides effective leadership and management for Synthetic Chemistry production personnel plus supporting MTO in a dynamic team oriented GMP environment. The manager will support multiple operations and technologies helping Illumina deliver its highly complex product pipeline in a safe, reliable, and sustainable manner. The manager will be a subject-matter expert with deep experience leading the team to accomplish routine operations, continuous improvement, and project deliverables.

Responsibilities include

  • Oversee production in synthetic chemistry Manufacturing
  • Identify and monitor personnel, equipment, and material resource needs to ensure that the production schedule is met, while maintaining a culture that prioritizes safety and quality.
  • Provide guidance and direction to the members of a High-Performance Work Team with regards to goal setting, scheduling, metrics reporting, projects, etc.
  • Collaborate and represent Manufacturing during discussions with partner organizations such as EH&S, Quality, Supply Chain, Product Development, Finance and Regulatory Affairs.
  • Oversee support of non-conformances/CAPAs through technical evaluations and investigations carried out by team members
  • Ensure productive cross-site and cross functional relationship between manufacturing sites
  • Oversee resolution for safety, quality, continuous improvement, new product development and financial goals.
  • Support the execution of validation plans and protocols
  • Responsible for manufacturing area budget
  • Maintain inventory compliance.
  • Ensure review of batch records and material transactions are completed on a timely basis.
  • Ensure employee training programs meet requirements.
  • Create and maintain work instructions, routings, BOMs, etc with appropriate partner organizations.
  • Identify and hire new personnel for backfills or new business needs.
  • Maintain audit readiness.

    Requirements include

  • Considerable experience in a GMP (ISO 13485 and FDA CFR Part 820) Organic Synthesis manufacturing and production environment,
  • Demonstrated excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with reactors, analytical and preparative HPLCs, UV/Vis spectrophotometers, and general lab equipment.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, highly flexible manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in transitioning processes from R&D to a manufacturing setting.
  • Scheduling / planning / inventory control experience.
  • ERP and EDMS experience, with SAP experience a plus.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification a plus.
  • Bachelors degree in Chemistry or equivalent experience
  • Considerable experience working in a chemical manufacturing environment in industry plus some management experience.
